About the assessment

The Comprehensive Neuro Assessment is a functional performance assessment. It gives a clear picture of how your brain, sensory system, and nervous system are performing right now. The goal is not to confirm what you already know about yourself. The goal is to get clear enough information about the key areas to actually do something about what you are experiencing. Your results guide the individualized program we recommend for you.

This assessment is not diagnostic. It does not identify, diagnose, or rule out any disease, disorder, or medical condition, and its findings describe how systems are functioning rather than what may be wrong. The assessment is educational, and its purpose is to guide your training. You may choose to share your results with your physician or other health care providers, who may consider them alongside their own evaluation.

What the assessment includes

• Quantitative electroencephalography, also called a qEEG brain map, which records the electrical activity of the brain through a soft cap placed on the scalp.
• A sensory and balance assessment, which looks at how the vestibular, proprioceptive, and visual systems work together to keep you steady and oriented.
• A measure of nervous system balance and efficiency through heart rate variability.

The assessment takes place in our office at 1082 N Main St, Waynesville, NC 28786, and the visit runs about two hours. Once your results are prepared, we will schedule a time to review your findings and recommendations with you. Children ages 7 and up may complete the assessment with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

What to expect and potential effects

Every part of the assessment is noninvasive, and none of it sends electrical current into the brain or body. Most people find the visit comfortable. A few temporary effects are possible, and they are listed below.

qEEG brain map

The cap may feel snug during recording, and the conductive gel may leave some residue in the hair until it is washed out. The qEEG only records activity and does not stimulate the brain.

Sensory and balance

Some balance tasks may leave you feeling briefly unsteady or mildly dizzy. Your practitioner stays close by throughout, and you may rest at any time.

Heart rate variability

A small sensor is placed on the ear, finger, or chest. There are no known risks beyond minor skin sensitivity where a sensor is placed.

Please tell your practitioner right away if you feel uncomfortable at any point. You may pause or stop the assessment whenever you choose.

Educational and coaching services

Waynesville Neuro Wellness provides educational and coaching services. Neither Waynesville Neuro Wellness nor its practitioners diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition, and Waynesville Neuro Wellness does not practice medicine, psychology, counseling, or any other licensed health care profession. Our work focuses on teaching and training the nervous system to build capacity, and nothing we provide is a medical or psychological service.

Our services are not a substitute for care from your physician or another licensed health care provider. Please continue any care you currently receive, and please do not start, stop, or change any medication without first speaking with the provider who prescribes it. If you have a medical or mental health emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

A nonrefundable $100 deposit is billed at booking, and the remaining balance is billed 24 hours before your appointment.

Your assessment visit reserves about two hours of practitioner time and equipment set aside just for you. To hold that time, a $100 deposit is billed when you book your Comprehensive Neuro Assessment. This deposit is nonrefundable. The remaining balance is billed 24 hours before your appointment.

We understand that plans change. If you need to move your appointment, you may do so by letting us know at least 24 hours in advance.

Insurance policy

Waynesville Neuro Wellness does not accept insurance. We do not submit claims to insurance, we do not code services for insurance reimbursement, and we do not provide superbills. We share this upfront because insurance companies do not currently pay for these services, and we want you to be able to plan with clear expectations.

All services are fee for service, and you will receive an invoice and a receipt for any services provided. Payment may be made in full or through a Klarna or Affirm installment plan. If cost is a barrier to care, you may apply for financial assistance through the link on our website.
